The Rancho Cucamonga Fire District Open House offers activities for the whole family, including firefighter demonstrations, public safety services, and learning how to become #ReadyRC!

Within your one-hour timeslot, you and your family will be able to enjoy all the activities we have to offer. What you can expect during your time:

RCFD Vehicles & Resources

Fire Engine

The Rancho Cucamonga Fire District houses 1 fire engine at each of our 7 fire stations. Staffed with 3 firefighters, the fire engine also carries hoses, tools, ladders, and emergency medical supplies. The fire engine holds up to 500 gallons of water. It is essential for firefighters to connect to a reliable water source such as a fire hydrant, when arriving on scene. The fire engine also holds up to 30 gallons of a fire retardant foam to assist with fire suppression efforts. The Type 1 fire engine is the most commonly used fire apparatus.

Investigator Unit

The Fire Investigator Unit carries the necessary equipment used by the Fire Investigators to respond to and support Fire District operations related to fires, hazmat and tactical response incidents. It is housed at Day Creek Fire Station 173 and is staffed by one Fire Investigator per shift who is a hazmat specialist and responds as part of the Hazmat Team. The equipment this unit carries includes hazardous materials assessment tools, Fire investigation tools, fire support generator and lighting and trauma medical resupply equipment.

OES 8637

The State of California OES Fire and Rescue Division coordinates the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System which moves local government resources across the state in support of all-risk emergency response on behalf of local, state, and federal government fire organizations. OES 8637 is one of several engines that is part of a regional fleet and responds to wildfires and flood emergencies anywhere in the state of California. OES 8637 is a Type 3 Engine, holds 500 gallons of water, and has 4 wheel drive capability. OES 8637 is housed at East Ave. Fire Station 176 and staffed by 3 RCFD personnel.

Brush Engine

Three of Rancho Cucamonga's seven fire stations are key to the Fire District's Wildland Fire Protection Program because they are close to the foothills and thus house specialty brush engines. Banyan Station 171, East Ave. Station 176, and Hellman Station 177 each house a "Type III" brush engine designed to navigate difficult terrain and vegetation. The brush engines are cross-staffed by the three-person crew assigned to that station. When a vegetation fire erupts, the crew will respond in the brush engine as opposed to the "Type I" fire engine see around the City.

Ladder Truck

Jersey Station's Medic Truck 174 and Banyan Station's Medic Truck 175 are staffed with highly trained firefighters and specially trained in technical rescues, ventilation operations, and more. Often called the "hook and ladder," the truck's 100' aerial ladder aids in rescues and elevating water streams. It is also capable of delivering large volumes of water - up to 1000 gallons per minute! The truck company responds to difficult rescues with its specialized equipment including the "Jaws of Life", ladders, airbags, and more.

Hazardous Material Unit

All Rancho Cucamonga Firefighters are trained to respond to hazardous material incidents by containing the spill and protecting nearby people, property, and the environment. The crews assigned to Day Creek Fire Station 173, which houses the Hazardous Materials Unit, have additional training to certify them as Hazardous Materials Specialists. They are trained to identify the chemical and neutralize any hazard that may be a danger to the public.

Heavy Rescue & Trailer

Rancho Cucamonga Fire District's Technical Rescue program consists of firefighters specially skilled in confined space rescue; trench collapse rescue; building collapse and shoring; swift water rescue; high angle rope rescue and large animal rescue. Many of the Team's responses are in the steep foothills of the Fire District, requiring high angle rope rescue to reach stranded or injured hikers, often working jointly with the Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team.
