URBAN FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN
An urban forest management plan (UFMP) is a comprehensive and strategic document that outlines how a city and community will manage its trees, green spaces, and natural resources in urban areas. An UFMP typically includes an inventory of existing trees, an assessment of their health and maintenance needs, and strategies for preserving and enhancing urban forest areas. It may also outline policies and procedures for managing trees on public and private land, as well as guidelines for addressing issues such as pests, diseases, and the changing environment. The goal of an UFMP is to provide a road map to manage the urban forest and describe the activities and services required to ensure that a city’s urban landscape is healthy, vibrant, and sustainable for the community to enjoy well into the future.
Why is Rancho Cucamonga developing an UFMP?
Developing an UFMP is essential for Rancho Cucamonga to maintain and enhance green spaces and natural resources in the community. This plan will also be a complimentary document to the recently adopted City General Plan and Climate Action Plan to achieve sustainability needs. Urban forests offer countless environmental, social, and economic benefits, including reducing air pollution, mitigating the urban heat island effect, and providing spaces for outdoor recreation. The City’s UFMP will outline recommendations, short and long-term planning, and resources needed to manage and sustain the urban forest effectively and proactively. Rancho Cucamonga’s UFMP will be a crucial tool for the city in managing our urban forest for the next 50 years.
We invite you to attend any of the community workshops listed below to help answer any questions as well as, provide your input and suggestions for our Urban Forest Management Plan. There will be several opportunities available to accommodate the schedules of our Rancho Cucamonga community.
