Measure Q: The Rancho Cucamonga Transient Occupancy Tax Measure

Measure Q: Supporting City Services in Rancho Cucamonga, Without Increasing Taxes on Residents

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is known for its strong quality of life and vibrant character where one can live, work, raise a family, and retire. The City strives to maintain safety, security, and a high quality of life for all who live, work, and visit here.

To help the City plan for the future, on May 15, 2024, after conducting public outreach and receiving feedback from the community, including conducting a public opinion poll, the Rancho Cucamonga City Council unanimously voted to place Measure Q, a Transient Occupancy Tax measure on the November 5, 2024 ballot.

Measure Q: A Modest Increase in Local Revenue at No Cost to Rancho Cucamonga Taxpayers

Measure Q will ask voters to increase the current TOT rate from 10% (last updated in 1983) to 12%. The increase would cost approximately an additional $3 on a $150 night stay.

The TOT is not paid by any local hotel, motel or short-term rental operator, but solely by guests staying within Rancho Cucamonga.

If approved by voters, the $1 million generated by Measure Q each year could provide funding to help the City plan for long-term budgeting of key City functions, including:1

  • Supporting Public Safety
  • Addressing Homelessness
  • Improving Infrastructure
  • Maintaining and Improving Parks and Open Space
  • Supporting City Programs for Seniors and Youth

Measure Q Required Fiscal Accountability Keeps All Funds Local

The City’s current TOT is subject to mandatory accountability requirements and if passed the increase Measure Q would include the same provisions, including:

  • All money raised by Measure Q could only be used to fund local services and infrastructure within Rancho Cucamonga City limits
  • A clear system of accountability would be required, including annual independent audits and public disclosure of spending
